Even though the Halloween candy is still calling our names, it somehow already feels like the holidays are around the corner. Like many Floridians, our family and friends from the Northeast are enjoying the magical changing leaves, dropping temps of sweater weather, and seasonal fare that has become synonymous with the fall. Down here in perpetual paradise, this time of year looks and feels a bit different. Dwayne has some easy and delicious ways to welcome the warmth and beauty of the season into your home with recipes and décor tips for embracing the cooler days ahead.

Don’t get us wrong, we love a pumpkin flavored beverage or baked good as much as the next person, but there is a whole world of fall flavors to explore! Beyond everyone’s favorite gourd there are dozens of squash varietals and countless ways to enjoy them. Try introducing delicata or butternut squash into your weeknight recipes for a warm, hearty meal. Dwayne likes to add them to harvest grain bowls along with toasted nuts, goat cheese, dried cranberries, and chicken for a healthy, family-friendly dish that everyone can make their own. If you’re watching your carbs, swap in spaghetti squash on pasta night for a satisfying low cal alternative. Adding a dash of cinnamon or nutmeg to your morning coffee is sure to start your day on a comforting note. And of course, one of Dwayne’s go-to sweet treats for this time of year and well into the winter is his signature chocolate bourbon pecan pie which oozes with coziness.

Each season brings with it a new assortment of senses to experience. In Autumn it’s the sound of crunching leaves, the smell of wood burning in the chilly air, the crisp first bite of an apple, the feel of cozy wool sweaters and blankets, and the awe-inspiring sight of the world around us changing colors from green to every shade of yellow, orange, and red. This might be describing only some parts of the country at this time of year, but there’s no reason we can’t enjoy the senses of the season no matter where we live! Instead of an overly perfumed “fall scented” candle, opt for one with notes found in your favorite recipes or memories. Cinnamon sugar, firewood, and fig are a few of our favorites. Consider keeping your pumpkin and gourd décor well beyond Halloween with tasteful clusters on your doorstep, mantle, staircase or table as a centerpiece. Add a splash of fall colors with sunset hued florals throughout the home.
